WeFi Unveils Comprehensive Directory of Wi-Fi Hotspots

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributing Editor

WeFi, a global Wi-Fi network has just released a free, comprehensive online directory of over one-million mapped Wi-Fi hotspots across the World.

The directory is available at WeFi’s (News - Alert) Web site or in the United States by dialing 4WEFI on a mobile phone. It allows people to locate the closest Wi-Fi connection and includes over one million mapped Wi-Fi hotspots - with the exact address and location details listed.

WeFi is community driven software that leverages the power of Wi-Fi and can be loaded onto a laptop or mobile device. Once loaded, the software automatically detects and qualifies all Wi-Fi access points within range and connects the user to the spot with the best Internet connection. Additionally, it also provides the users with Instant-Messaging tools.

The current launch of comprehensive directory of Wi-Fi Hotspots is yet another significant milestone of the company. The directory features known hotspots around the world, with the largest concentration of access points in major American cities including Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Dallas and Houston.

WeFi also has plans to add more hotspots shortly.

“WeFi is constantly looking for new ways to increase Wi-Fi availability for everyone,” said Zur Feldman, chief executive officer at WeFi.

“Using our new hotspot directory, people can easily find a connection, wherever they are or want to go. The current launch is yet more proof that WeFi is at the forefront of bringing Wi-Fi connectivity to anyone, anywhere, and anytime,” added Feldman.

Moreover, WeFi’s hotspot directory is user generated, allowing users to add a newly recognized hotspot to the directory by just downloading the free software from the WeFi Web site. In addition, if the user’s mobile phone or computer has a GPS device installed, then a new hotspot can be located automatically.

WeFi also mentioned that it will be showcasing the newly launched directory at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2009 in February in Barcelona.
