To ensure the smooth functioning of wireless devices on the occasion of President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, Powerwave Technologies has been selected to provide wireless coverage to the event.
As one of the biggest events in the world this year, President Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration will attract an estimated crowd of two to four million. Many among these will be reporters and journalists who will need a robust wireless network to continually transmit messages from their wireless devices.
With its Nexus repeaters, Powerwave ( News - Alert) will support multi-carrier and multi-band operation. This will provide high capacity and long-reach fiber optic distribution for the inaugural event. The company has installed many such repeaters in hundreds of public safety and commercial deployments around the world. The places that have these repeaters include sports arenas, skyscrapers, subways and airports.
“Powerwave’s innovative wireless coverage and capacity solutions are ideal to enable rapid and cost-effective expansion of wireless coverage networks at any venue,” said Ronald Buschur, president and CEO, Powerwave Technologies. “We are pleased to be providing the wireless infrastructure to support citizens of all walks of life who, thanks to wireless communications, will be able to share this momentous inaugural event with their family.”
U.S. wireless carriers are already feeling the heat of the situation. Such a large number of people and the growing prevalence of cell phones in society have contributed to unimaginable strain in the wireless network in the country. The past few months have witnessed wireless service providers working overtime to enhance wireless network capacity around the Capitol grounds, parade route, and National Mall for the historic event.
The company announced its third quarter results in October last year, where it stated that sales in the third quarter were $238.0 million, an increase of 18.6 percent, compared with $200.7 million reported in the third quarter of fiscal 2007. The company also posted a third quarter GAAP net loss of $1.8 million.
