VIXXI Solutions has announced the conclusion of testing of their Reverse Geo-Coder. This technology is the first in the industry to enable public safety answering points (PSAPs) to receive address information of wireless emergency callers without the costly investment of a mapping system.

The Reverse Geo-Coder works by obtaining a device’s x, y, and z coordinates from either its GPS or PDE signal. The solution works both indoors and out and will reverse codes that point into the closest physical address of the caller and sends it with the data record with the PSAP.

 

This VIXXI Solutions technology is positioned as being revolutionary as today’s wireless E911 technology relies on some form of radiolocation to route emergency calls to the correct PSAP. The downside is that no physical address location is actually provided to the operator within the data record.

When a PSAP lacks the proper mapping system to use for those callers who are unable to tell an operator their location due to the nature of the emergency, the ability to determine location can literally save lives.

In addition, this latest technology can also generate a map with a breadcrumb trail. As a result, if a caller is moving and approaching the boundary of a new PSAP jurisdiction, the current PSAP can apply that information for optimal emergency response.

PSAPs do have the choice whether or not to receive the address information in order to prevent any risk associated with approximate address information. Or, an advisory can be sent with the address information in the remarks column.

This next generation technology from VIXXI fulfills I2 specifications and is I3-ready. Such an approach to standards helps to position the solution as a true differentiator for wireless providers in today’s competitive market.
