Wavelink & Aruba Team for Mobile Device Management

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Mobile application developer Wavelink Corp. has joined forces with Aruba Networks (News - Alert) in order to integrate functionality between Aruba's wireless and mobility systems and the Wavelink Avalanche Mobility Center product line.

According to the companies' news release, the move could benefit retail and logistics organizations in that they will be able to manage their mobile devices seamlessly, as well as their and Aruba mobility controllers and access points, from a common centralized management console.

"For the retail and logistics markets, Wavelink has extensive experience solving the unique challenges associated with managing wireless infrastructure while Aruba's Mobile Edge addresses PCI-level security along with support for legacy and contemporary mobile devices and applications," said Aruba's vice president of marketing Gary Singh in a statement released on Monday. "Combining Wavelink's and Aruba's solutions will offer existing and new retail customers an easy and efficient management solution for complex mobile systems that include Aruba wireless equipment."

Via the new partnership, Wavelink and Aruba will provide retailers with a way to secure and support both legacy and contemporary mobile devices, simultaneously. The move will allow for legacy devices to slowly be replaced without disrupting mobile application integration.

With Avalanche MC in place, customers can centrally deploy, secure and manage a complete mobile system. Avalanche MC will allow policy management of Aruba mobility controllers from within the Wavelink management console.

Aruba and Wavelink have planned a number of product enhancements over the year's coming quarters.

Wavelink also made news today when with it's release of the Avalanche MC version 4.1.1. The latest version, features upgrades that provides Wavelink's customer base with a central view of each element of their wireless LAN, provisioning and maintaining all major brands of their handheld mobile computers, wireless infrastructure devices and peripheral items, such as printers and barcode scanners.
