“Despite the current economic climate, we’re seeing rapid adoption of wireless technology and applications across the public safety sector, and our latest survey shows that agencies still plan to invest in this area in the coming years,” said Pam Cory, Vice President of Marketing, NetMotion Wireless.
“For these officers and their IT managers, connectivity is of critical importance. This industry, in particular has been quick to adopt technology that improves officer productivity in the field, so that they can focus on their primary duties, and not technology,” added Cory.
The customer survey included NetMotion’s installed base of 1,200 organizations and government agencies and was conducted last month. The survey found that about 60 percent of respondents will spend more on wireless technology next year with 17 percent not sure about their plans. Approximately 94 percent of public safety agencies utilize multiple wireless data networks for their deployments.
Survey also reveals that about 20 percent of agencies use a combination of Wi-Fi and one cellular carrier like Sprint, AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile (

According to the survey over 97 percent of wireless deployments include laptops, besides 35 percent using tablet PCs and nearly 55 percent using a smartphone or other wireless handheld device in their deployments.
A majority of IT personnel who support pubic safety field forces emphasize that a mobile deployment was considered successful if it saves officers’ time and also makes them more productive on field. Many agencies are planning to deploy streaming video within the field and 29 percent will be using Mobile Voice over IP within their agencies.
About 91 percent of the respondents expressed their satisfaction with the mobile deployment of NetMotion Wireless. Most respondents said that they were able to maintain their application persistence even during dropped network connections through wireless coverage gaps.
