AT&T Homezone Users to Program TVs with Their Wireless Phones

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

AT&T (News - Alert) Homezone customers will soon be able to control their television recordings via wireless handsets.

The move will enable customers to view listings, manage and schedule recordings on their Homezone receiver via compatible wireless phones and devices from wireless carriers. The feature will be available later this month. Currently, Homezone customers can schedule and manage the recordings via a Web browser on their PCs. They can also activate video-on-demand downloads, which is an upcoming feature of the wireless integration.

AT&T Homezone service integrates AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet, AT&T | DISH Network satellite television and AT&T Home Networking services via a single set-top device.

AT&T also announced today that it will expand its on-demand online content offerings to include vast program title archive from Akimbo. The new content will enhance the Homezone receiver library, which is comprised of downloadable music, photos and movies—including material from Yahoo! (LAUNCHcast music, Movie Showtimes, AT&T Yahoo! Photos) and Web Remote Access and Movielink (movies on demand).

“When consumers think TV, we want them to think AT&T,” noted Rick Welday, chief marketing officer-AT&T Consumer, in a statement. “Compelling features, like wireless remote access and thousands of downloadable titles, give us an entertainment service that is beyond other video services on the market today.”

Today’s news follows AT&T’s announcement about being tapped by Deutsche Bank Brazil, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank, to supply international end-to-end private lines to the financial institution in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, with Deutsche Bank’s operations in more than 70 countries.

AT&T also agreed to provide Deutsche Bank's IT organization with technical support.
