Motorola (
News -
Alert) has launched a built-in, hardware-based wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) sensor in its wireless LAN (WLAN) access points.
The integrated product was followed by Motorola's acquisition of AirDefense (

last month.
According to Paul Brooks, director of global information security for Ahold, global enterprises today, more than ever, are turning to recognizable names in WLAN infrastructure and security, because reliability and trustworthiness of products is important in a changing economic climate.
Officials claimed that the integrated product improves security compared to WIPS approaches and minimizes hardware and wiring costs.
Notably, Motorola's AP-5131 and AP-7131 customers can integrate AirDefense WIPS into their WLAN infrastructure by a software upgrade to these multi-radio access point platforms.
The multi-radio Motorola AP-5131 (802.11 abg) and AP-7131 (802.11 abgn) along with the integrated, hardware-based wireless intrusion prevention system enables enterprises to be free from the hassle of a traditional three-layer wired solution. Better than overlay wireless to overlay WIPS, it offers cost-effective, integrated solution for businesses that result in securing their networks against wireless attacks.
Motorola's Enterprise Mobility business complies with industry norms and requirement, and ensures easy deployment, security and management of wireless networks.
According to Sujai Hajela, vice president and general manager of Enterprise WLAN, "Motorola and AirDefense have already hit the ground running and are ready to offer our customers around the world streamlined secure enterprise networks at the lowest total cost of ownership."
