Devicescape, a provider of secure and seamless access for wireless devices, announced today its latest version of its Devicescape Easy Wi-Fi software - a comprehensive product that can be integrated into a wide variety of service-enabled device designs to provide secure, reliable and easy-to-use Wi-Fi network access. The solution is suitable for OEM and ODM embedded devices, PC OEM applications, and semiconductor reference designs.

The company also announced the release of three new market-specific solutions: Easy Wi-Fi for Handsets, Easy Wi-Fi for PCs and Easy Wi-Fi for Devices. These three solutions provide device manufacturers with a comprehensive set of software that can be easily integrated into their products, which not only enable Wi-Fi devices, but also help drive down development costs, increase time to market and leverage software for their end-user designs.
“By offering software that enables instant, secure and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, Devicescape can help device manufacturers of all types deliver devices that are easy to use and can work across any environment -- home, office or hotspot -- to increase user satisfaction and revenue,” said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape. “Devicescape Easy Wi-Fi is already proven in millions of devices worldwide, and with our new market-specific solutions for handset, PC and devices, OEMs and ODMs can accelerate device development and use.”
The solution's features include: a connection manager framework that handles setup, management and termination of Wi-Fi connections, as well as managing the priority and security settings of networks to be selected; complete support for WEP, WPA/WPA2 Personal and Enterprise, and a broad set of EAP modes for comprehensive support of secure Wi-Fi networks, along with optional assured compatibility with Cisco (News - Alert) enterprise WLAN; Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) makes setting up a secure personal wireless network as simple as pushing a button or entering a PIN code; and a Hotspot Login that allows users to seamlessly connect to hotspots without having to constantly re-enter information.
“Virtually all of the leading mobile devices today include Wi-Fi connectivity but that does little good regardless of whether they are laptops or hand held products if they can't connect to a service easily,” said Rob Enderle, Analyst for the Enderle Group. “What Devicescape does close that final gap and allow these Wi-Fi enabled devices to connect easily to most of the massive number of hot spots located around the world and held device manufacturers and service providers sell products that approach the promise of being always connected.”
Devicescape's three new market-specific solutions -- Easy Wi-Fi for Handsets, Easy Wi-Fi for PCs and Easy Wi-Fi for Devices -- leverages critical technology to meet the specific Wi-Fi needs of manufacturers in these markets. Easy Wi-Fi for Handsets includes a complete Wi-Fi solution that enables handsets to either work with a specific operator and roaming partner or work with multiple operators. It also provides a connection manager framework for client and service updates.
Easy Wi-Fi for PCs includes a Wi-Fi solution that provides security and is compatible with all operator networks. OEMs can integrate this solution using the connection manager to offer out-of-the-box access to hundreds of thousands of free hotspots. A Web-based control panel allows users and operators to manage the service, which can be configured to support single or multiple operators.
Easy Wi-Fi for Devices provides manufacturers with a small footprint Wi-Fi access solution that provides robust security as well as automatic login capabilities. Manufacturers can improve their device appeal by providing support to all markets and geographies as well as simplify the Wi-Fi access. Easy Wi-Fi for Devices offers an optional Web-based control panel for users that can be re-branded and hosted at the service provider's Web site.
Devicescape Easy Wi-Fi and its variants are available immediately, and work on most chips sets and operating systems.
