The MC8792V is the company’s first to offer 900 MHz frequency band support and it is designed for HSPA networks, offering new and existing original equipment manufacturer customers the ability to expand their product offerings, according to Sierra.
The solution provides features such as: peak data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on the downlink and 2.0 Mbps on the uplink; GPS-capable to support location-based services; voice capabilities, making it ideal for fixed wireless terminals and portable handheld devices that require the ability to make voice calls; tri-band HSPA/UMTS and quad-band support for EDGE/GPRS/GSM network access for roaming on high-speed networks worldwide; and support for simultaneous voice and data usage.
The MC8792V embedded module can be integrated into a variety of OEM devices, according to officials from Sierra. This includes fixed wireless terminals, point-of-sale devices, as well as computers and ruggedized laptops and offers complete wireless data solutions over HSPA networks utilizing the 900, 1900, or 2100 MHz frequency bands. Facilitating hardware devices to function as powerful communications tools with voice and data capabilities, the MC8792V module includes GPS support, company officials say.
“An increasing number of network operators around the world are currently considering, or are already using the 900 MHz frequency range in their HSPA network deployments,” said Trent Punnett, senior vice president of Marketing and Corporate Development for Sierra Wireless. “The MC8792V caters to these companies, providing the same premium functionality and performance that is expected of Sierra Wireless embedded modules while enabling OEM customers to align themselves with other markets offering mobile broadband technology.”
