TeliaSonera is deploying Ruckus Wireless (News - Alert) MediaFlex Smart Wi-Fi systems to provide customers wireless distribution of the IP-based digital TV service (IPTV), Telia Digital-TV, throughout their homes.

 

Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi system allows TeliaSonera (News - Alert) customers to place TVs anywhere in their homes and wirelessly connect to a number of innovative digital television services.

 

NoWire, a Norwegian wireless distributor, has been chosen to supply TeliaSonera with Ruckus MediaFlex 802.11g Smart Wi-Fi systems to support whole home wireless distribution of the Telia Digital-TV service. Currently made available to consumers through TeliaSonera sales channels, the Ruckus MediaFlex systems can be easily self-installed by subscribers.

 

Selina Lo, president and CEO of Ruckus Wireless, noted that in a remarkably short period of time, their MediaFlex Smart Wi-Fi system has become the de facto wireless standard for customer premise equipment to support real-time video and multimedia distribution among the world's leading broadband providers.

 

In just two years, MediaFlex Smart Wi-Fi system has become the most installed Wi-Fi system for IPTV (News - Alert) in the world and according to Lo, remains the only real commercial-grade wireless product that delivers picture-perfect distribution of standard and high- definition IPTV services.

 

According to Ruckus Wireless officials, in terms of broadband penetration by population, Nordic countries make up five of the top eight on the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development's (OECD) official list. They said that Sweden has seen extensive investment in fast DSL and fiber upgrades which provide the infrastructure for triple play services. Sweden is at the forefront of digital terrestrial TV, which can be accessed by more than 98 percent of the population.

 

Ruckus Wireless is a WiFi (News - Alert) technology company in the carrier and enterprise wireless LAN markets. Earlier this month, Emmanuel College selected Ruckus Wireless to replace its existing 802.11g WiFi network with a campus-wide 802.11n wireless LAN based on smart WiFi technology.
