The TV 2.0 Platform delivers contextual content to today’s multi-tasking TV viewers in a rich second-screen environment by deploying fast-growing home WiFi ( News - Alert) networks. The tvCompass TV 2.0 Platform powers the first WiFi Mobile Internet Device developed for the digital home, and seamlessly integrates original equipment manufactured customizable MID hardware with hosted content to offer two-way interactive entertainment to users through their TV sets.
Edward J. Zylka, chief executive officer of tvCompass Inc., said that the multi-tasking TV viewer has created an opportunity to deliver an enhanced TV experience by merging the Internet with traditional TV viewing, and the multi-device TV home has also created an opportunity to deliver augmented content, while offering a new approach to controlling the digitally connected home through a single device.
Zylka said that in a recent announcement from Intel ( News - Alert) Corporation and Yahoo! Inc. for the Widget Channel, the companies said that an application framework optimized for TV and related consumer electronics products helped reinforce the strategy brought by tvCompass to the market last November. The announcement said that although the company believes widgets augment TV programming content simplifies consumer usability, a second screen approach maintains the passive viewing environment that TV watching requires.
The viewers will be able to deploye the TV 2.0 Platform coupled with tvCompass’s WiFi Mobile Internet Device to go through a variety of personal experiences using a second screen device, without disrupting the TV screen.
The users can also access an “off screen” Interactive Program Guide for cable, satellite, HDTV broadcast or video on demand channels, and enjoy instant access to local weather conditions, staying current with news and information.
