SIMtone Launches Wireless Universal Cloud Computing Terminal

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributing Editor

SIMtone Corporation has launched a new cloud computing device, SIMtone SNAPbook, designed for the mobile broadband market.

Virtual Cloud Computing provides a simplified and enhanced standard for on-demand, dialtone-based desktop and application services. SIMtone claims that the new, portable SIMtone SNAPbook is the industry’s first wireless-ready, zero-touch portable Wi-Fi SIMtone terminal that can be used to access on-demand and on- the-fly any virtual desktop and other cloud computing services powered by the SIMtone platform.

Based on the Asus Eee PC solid state hardware, the device connects to any SIMtone-powered cloud service on-the-fly, via any Wi-Fi, HSPA, EVDO or WiMAX (News - Alert) access point. Users can access any SIMtone cloud service made available by enterprises or service providers, such as Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft XP, Microsoft (News - Alert) 2003 or Linux virtual desktop and application environments.

“Mobilizing the power of the SIMtone cloud computing platform, the new SNAPbook terminal provides end-users with an always-on, available-everywhere, full-featured PC experience without the need to carry and manage traditional laptops or desktops and the requisite software,” said Misha Nossik, executive vice president, Hosted Desktop Services of SIMtone Corporation.

Just like all SIMtone SNAP terminals, the new portable SNAPbook also delivers full, native end-user experience created by each computing service hosted in the cloud, such as high-quality MP3 audio and desktop video performance, as well as plug-and-play native USB support.

In addition to this, the SNAPbook supports automatic tunneling which enables seamless automatic connectivity to SIMtone cloud computing services from office LANs in addition to home and public Internet access points.

The SNAP software terminals are available as a free download and SNAPbook and SNAP One SIMtone terminals is available with SIMtone cloud access service providers.
