Wayport Helps Boingo Subscribers Get Wi-Fi Access at McDonald's

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Under a new strategic agreement Boingo subscribers will be able to access Wayport’s entire North American network of Wi-Fi hotspots, including over 9,000 Wi-Fi enabled McDonald’s U.S. restaurants.

Dave Hagan, president and CEO of Boingo Wireless (News - Alert) said in a statement that it is now easier than ever to use a Boingo account on the go. He expressed his company’s excitement to extend their agreement with Wayport to include access at participating McDonald’s locations to their extensive network.

With Boingo, consumers have a choice of Wi-Fi hotspots thanks to its combination of over 100,000 locations from more than 150 leading Wi-Fi operators, like Wayport, into one worldwide network. Using Boingo’s free Wi-Fi client software, Boingo users can connect to any of these locations with a single Boingo account. Boingo’s free Wi-Fi client software combines more than 660 network names into one “Boingo Wireless” network to simplify identifying and connecting to commercial Wi-Fi networks.

Dave Vucina, CEO of Wayport noted that this new agreement both strengthens their commitment to their neutral host strategy as they drive incremental customers to their partner venues like McDonald’s, which is a perfect digital destination based on its ubiquity and accessibility.

As a neutral host, Wayport enables wireless carriers, ILECs, ISPs, device manufacturers and aggregators like Boingo to offer their own branded Wi-Fi experience to their subscribers through Wayport-enabled Wi-Fi locations.

Boingo made headlines recently for joining the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), an industry alliance of wireless broadband industry players that facilitates global Wi-Fi roaming amongst its members.
