As per the agreement, Agilent and Runcom (

reference designs with Agilent protocol test systems.
It is required that all WiMAX devices should confirm to certain industry requirements for interoperability. Hence these devices are put to protocol conformance test (PCT) certification before use. These traceable and effective protocol tests assures interoperability between WiMAX reference designs and it promotes customer confidence and promotes industry growth.
Regarding the testing procedure the companies said that the Agilent N6430A WiMAX Protocol Conformance Test and Development Solution which is based on Agilent’s E6651A Mobile WiMAX Test Set is at the WiMAX forum testing lab. The pre-validation testing at the lab will be done using mobile terminals and base stations employing Runcom Mobile WiMAX chips.
C. J. Meurell, European operations general manager for Agilent’s Mobile Broadband Division’s WiMAX/WLAN
portfolio, said, “We are very enthusiastic about the development of a PCT partnership with Runcom. Our relationship will accelerate the progress of both companies as we move ahead with Mobile WiMAX Wave 2.”
Meurell pointed out that Runcom was a pioneer in the WiMAX field and that his company was fortunate to be able to partner with them on the development of PCT.
Runcom Technologies is involved with the development of OFDMA silicon solutions for fixed and mobile WiMAX user-terminals and base stations. It supplies chipsets for the IEEE
802.16e-2005 standard. It is on this standard that WiMAX Forum mobile profiles are based. The RNA200 ASIC from Runcom was a pioneer in the mobile WiMAX compliant ASIC.
Israel Koffman, Runcom’s vice president of Marketing remarked, “Our customers need independent and robust PCT solutions to be available, and we are keen to support this. Working with the wireless industry’s test leader, Agilent, means that our customers can count on solutions that work with our designs wherever they are in the world.”
Commenting on his company’s partnership with Agilent, he added, “Agilent’s ability to test terminals, base stations, protocol, and RF and application performance is a unique value proposition that we believe will benefit our customers.”
Agilent Technologies is a member of the WiMAX Forum and develops WiMAX Radio and Conformance Test (RCT) documents and procedures. It provides standard-compliant 802.16 physical layer (PHY) design and test tools for Fixed and Mobile WiMAX applications. These tools include WiBro which enables users to simulate, troubleshoot and verify designs effectively.
