D-Link Debuts Business-Grade, Cloud-Managed Wi-Fi Solution

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

D-Link, a provider of end-to-end networking solutions, announced that it has debuted the world's first business-grade, cloud-managed Wi-Fi solution, DAP-2555 AirPremier N Dual Band, tailor-made for small- and medium-sized businesses, “SMBs.”

According to D-Link (News - Alert), the DAP-2555 is the first affordable cloud-managed business-class Wi-Fi networking solution. It is built to meet the connectivity and security needs of SMBs with typically 5 to 300 users who require an affordable, wireless network that can deliver broad and reliable connectivity, strong security, as well as guest Internet access in one easy-to-use solution.

The DAP-2555 Access Point (News - Alert) also provides end users and value-added resellers “VARs” with the ability to quickly and easily set up, secure and manage wireless networks with multiple access points and locations to provide maximum coverage. Apart from getting maximum coverage, VARs can also save significant amount of time and resources by managing networks remotely through the cloud.

Officials with D-Link said that the company signed a strategic agreement with PowerCloud Systems, in order to integrate CloudCommand, an online software platform based on patented network virtualization and usable security technologies that make networking equipment and resources dramatically easier to deploy, configure, secure and manage—all at a affordable price.

Due to the integration of CloudCommand platform on to DAP-2555, it is able to deliver a Wi-Fi environment with core business-grade features for a fraction of what traditional enterprise solutions cost. This will fill the product gap between non-scalable, consumer-grade Wi-Fi products and complex, expensive enterprise platforms within the SMB market.

Some of the other key features and benefits delivered by DAP-2555 Access Point include: deployment of multiple, self-configuring access points to single or multiple locations in minutes; management of multiple networks from a single interface; deployment of intrusion detection and creation of a guest network along with firewall protection..

Apart from allowing online remote management, the new DAP-2555 Access Point also provides IT administrators with individual, user management with two-factor authentication and encryption. It also reviews statistics and graphic reports and receives e-mail and Short Message Service “SMS” notifications..

Jeff Abramowitz, president and CEO, PowerCloud Systems, said in a statement, "For businesses needing enterprise-grade 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with enhanced security capabilities across one or multiple locations, this is the most cost-effective solution in the market. As the world's largest supplier of Wi-Fi infrastructure products, D-Link is well positioned to use its channel presence, manufacturing prowess, and worldwide operations to drive a paradigm shift in the industry."

Available through VARs, the new DAP-2555 AirPremier N Dual Band Access Point is priced at MSRP $399.

In the recent news, D-Link introduced DLNA-certified HD Media Routers, SmartBeam products and 500Mbps PowerLine solutions, which will enable consumers to take advantage of HD video-on-demand, HD gaming and other bandwidth-demanding applications with a strong WiFi (News - Alert) network platform and intelligent antenna technology.
