Wi-Fi Encryption: Theory, Uses, Tips, and Tricks
Wireless networks transfer information over the open air, effectively broadcasting to every station in range of the signal. This is in stark contrast to most wired networks which provide dedicated, wired ports to connect users. Implementing and maintaining Wi-Fi networks in particular requires an increased awareness and understanding of the techniques available to ensure the confidentiality of data traveling over wireless networks is equivalent to or better than wired networks.

Bruce Miller has over 17 years of experience in the communications industry in both marketing and engineering roles. He joined Xirrus in 2006 and leads the Product Management function for the company. Prior to Xirrus, he was Executive Director of Product Management at Ixia, focused on bringing IP network and application testing systems to market. Prior to Ixia, Bruce was a Senior Product Manager at Lucent Technologies for DSL products where he was involved in driving the first IP video over DSL solution deployment in the industry. Before Lucent, he was the Director of OEM Marketing for Cabletron Systems. Bruce received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.

Lisa Phifer is Vice President and co-owner of Core Competence, a consulting firm focused on business use of emerging network and security technologies. She has advised companies large and small regarding use of network technologies and security best practices to manage risk and meet business needs. Lisa teaches and writes extensively about a wide range of technologies, from wireless/mobile security and intrusion prevention to virtual private networking and network access control.
