Webinar - Not All Colocation Services Are Created Equal

Colocation has come to mean a lot of things over the years, traditionally signifying off-site data storage, typically in a data center. Often provided as a standardized service, colocation usually meant an organization’s data was safely backed up in the event of a disaster or outage, and also enabled multiple customers to connect to their servers, data and network resources using various service providers.

Today’s “as-a-service” model has pretty much revolutionized colocation services, layering important value-added tools on to traditional offerings. Colocation providers no longer merely offer rack space and network connectivity, but provide valuable features like infrastructure and remote management and high-density power, offering major benefits to service providers and their customers alike.

Colocation services provider vXchnge is an example of a company that has transformed the way it delivers services to reach local markets throughout the U.S. The company takes advantage of software-defined networking (SDN) and software-defined data centers (SDDCs) to virtualize all elements of the data center infrastructure, ultimately enabling agility, flexibility and security for its customers and their end users.

At the other end of the spectrum is global colocation services provider Internap (News - Alert), which has presence in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The company offers a number of value-added services like energy efficiency as well as security and regulatory compliance. Internap also provides managed installation services, data center interconnection and circuit testing as well as scalability and high availability.

Since colocation service providers offer a wide range of services, it’s important to look at which technologies they are using and what types of value-added solutions they are offering before choosing a provider. Solutions geared toward driving overall efficiencies and cost savings provide the most benefits for service providers and their customers.

Internap is hosting a webinar dedicated to this topic on November 5 at 2 p.m. ET. The live “Next-Generation Colocation” event will feature a panel discussion with industry colocation and data center experts, outlining the future of colocation and providing guidelines for those choosing a colocation service provider.
