Webinar - Mobile Value Added Services Market Catching Fire
By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Web Editor
On a recent episode of the show Community one character stared in disbelief as another character picked up her smartphone and… made a call. But then he had a revelation, saying “She was born in the 80s. She uses her phone as a… phone…”
And that, in a nutshell, sums up the challenges in the mobile market today. Gone are the days when mobile providers were merely concerned with how many minutes to include on a plan, or when night and weekend hours started. We have also moved far beyond the innovation of texting and SMS features. Nowadays, the market is all about mobile value added services (VAS). Mobile VAS is the hottest market segment, and an opportunity for mobile providers to carve out a piece of this very lucrative pie.
Recent studies have projected that the mobile VAS market will be worth $11 billion in India alone by 2015. The worldwide market is expected to hit a whopping $360 billion by the same year.
Although there will be many opportunities for mobile providers to take advantage of this lucrative market, there are several barriers that they would face along the way. Acquiring hardware and licenses to facilitate the creation and development of these applications and services are often challenges for even the most experienced and well-funded company.
Fortunately for companies that have questions about the mobile VAS space, Sangoma, a provider of hardware and software solutions that enable and enhance IP communications, is holding a webinar to discuss this topic. Titled “Mobile VAS using Sangoma and Open Source (News - Alert) Technology,” the free webinar will teach attendees how to use Sangoma gear to interface with the SS7 network, how to use Asterisk to create high-powered applications that can be deployed using the Sangoma SS7 solution, and more.
