Backup, Recovery and the Commodity Pigeonhole
When it comes to backup software and recovery solutions, now is as important a time as ever to make sure you have a trusty solution in tow. After all, the loss of imperative programs, files and emails can be catastrophic in today’s business environment in which a bout of downtime can spell long-term trouble for a company.
In fact, a recent survey, from Stratus Technologies (News - Alert) and ITIC Corporation, found that more than half of the businesses (52 percent) do not fully understand the potential financial impact of IT downtime and the negative consequences it can have for their bottom line and reputation. In addition to losing critical seconds to conduct business, downtime can also leave companies vulnerable if they do not have proper backup systems in place. The survey also revealed that although 48 percent of companies currently calculate the cost of IT downtime, most of them still drastically underestimate the actual costs of outages, the ensuing remediation efforts, customer dissatisfaction and the increased potential of litigation, according to survey officials.
So when it comes to backup, recovery and archiving, these processes are more paramount than ever before as they guarantee you access to your files at all times and allow you to make use of duplicate copies in the face of computer problems. With demand for constant uptime burgeoning rapidly, countless managed service providers (MSPs) have charged forward spreading the word that they stand ready to offer all the best when it comes to backup, recovery and archiving solutions, among other tools.
However, with demand for these solutions at an all time high, many times MSPs find that delivering a backup solution can oftentimes catapult them down the fast track towards commodity pricing and diluted value. Nonetheless, there still exist ways for MSPs to remain profitable and avoid succumbing to the commodity pigeonhole –all of which will keep them ahead of the competition.
Along these lines, in just a few days Datto, a provider of hardware-based on- and off-site backup and disaster recovery solutions, will host a free webinar event titled “Business Continuity Solutions for MSPs: How to remain profitable and avoid the Commodity Trap,” taking place at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PT Thursday, April 19. The webinar will explore how to structure your storage offerings; pricing models for success; choosing the right technologies; and bundling storage solutions with other products.
