Webinar - Webinar Sheds Light on Key Factors for Managing 4G LTE and IMS Performance

A recent free Webinar presented by TMC (News - Alert) dealt with a hot topic today, the use of multiple vendor technologies and the exponential rise in network elements. This creates new challenges in gaining end-to-end visibility of performance and availability in 4G LTE (News - Alert) and IMS networks and services, as those with experience well know.

Most significantly, the number of network elements and interfaces will increase by an order of magnitude, and be highly distributed given regional variations in subscriber numbers, traffic volumes, and cell-site loading.

The Webinar, titled “Key Factors for Managing 4G LTE and IMS Performance at Scale,” is available as an archive. Click here to Register Now for the archived presentation.

Presenting was Patrick Kelly, research director for Analysys (News - Alert) Mason’s Telecoms Software research stream, which focuses on identifying the segments in the telecoms software market and providing forecast and market share data on each of the 26 segments by region and service type. He has produced research on IP next-generation service assurance, policy management, the 3G mobile software market, cloud computing, and customer experience management.

Also presenting was Pete Cruz, senior director of Product Management and Marketing for SevOne. He’s responsible for product management and marketing, having over 19 years of experience in network, server, and application management, including performance, fault, configuration, and service level management.

During his presentation Kelly explained some of the factors driving migration to LTE, including improved cellular devices, convergence of IP networks, affordable pricing and bundling and services.

As the Webinar’s presenters agreed, these challenges of distribution and scale become even more pronounced because the LTE/IMS architecture collapses what were previously two separate networks (voice and data) into a single all-IP system, that includes five core, multi-vendor systems: radio access network, aggregation and backhaul, Ethernet packet core, MPLS transport/backbone, and the IMS core.

As a result, the Webinar dealt with the impact of increased bandwidth demands on communications providers, the importance of proactive network performance management to ensure the infrastructure meets current and future demands and key attributes to look for when selecting a network performance management tool to address 4G/LTE, and IMS management challenges.
