When a company upgrades its traditional PBX to Voice-over-IP, it often ends up keeping analog phone lines in place to support fax machines and MFDs with fax capability. After a VoIP deployment, IT managers often look for ways to rid themselves of the remaining lines and replace fax servers - rather than integrate them into the new PBX.
Fax-over-IP (FoIP) is more often than not the solution many IT managers turn to – as it represents a logical progression which on the surface promises an easy-to-integrate and cost effective solution, that consolidates all business communications over a network. Although FoIP may sound like an elegant solution, in real life it often fails to deliver in terms of cost savings or performance, due to the inherent differences between Fax and Voice. For instance, IT managers do not realize that in many cases FoIP requires double or triple the bandwidth voice does. For organizations where fax is still a mission critical function, this represents a high level of business risk.
So what solution has proven to be the most effective? Fax technology expert, and Head of Professional Services at Protus, Marc Cerullo addresses many of the frequently asked questions regarding VoIP and faxing in the corporate environment.
What Attendees will learn:
- The organizational impact of faxing;
- Pros and cons of FoIP and VoIP faxing solutions;
