Dr. Metzler has worked in many positions in the networking industry. This includes creating software tools to design customer networks for AT&T; being an Engineering Manager for high speed data services for NYNEX; being a Product Manager for network hardware at Prime Computer; managing DEC's network; directing and performing market research at the Yankee Group; and running a consulting organization at Strategic Networks.

Jim's primary interest is on how IT creates business value. His current technical interests include Application Delivery, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization.
