WiMAX or TD-LTE: Addressing the demand for broadband services through a multi-technology approach

As the U.S. continues to expand its broadband penetration, it is imperative for operators to evaluate a host of technologies that can provide broadband services throughout the country, including rural areas. This webinar will address how to build a multi-frequency network using long range 4G wireless technologies that are specifically targeted for broadband wireless application. The National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), who represents the advanced telecommunications and information technology interests of more than 1,500 rural utilities and affiliates in 48 states, will provide the insight on deploying wireless broadband in rural areas. In addition, global 4G wireless broadband leader Alvarion will present the technology strategies that can be utilized to cost effectively build a future proof wireless broadband network.

Presenters:
Ashish Sharma
VP Marketing, Alvarion Ltd.

As VP of Marketing for Alvarion Ltd., Ashish provides leadership for Alvarion’s corporate marketing and public relations efforts worldwide, serving as company spokesperson. Ashish is very active within the WiMAX industry, playing a prominent role within the WiMAX Forum Marketing Working Group. He was instrumental in the development of the WiMAX industry during its infancy, and has continued to contribute to its growth by leading key activities with Alvarion and the WiMAX Forum.

Ashish’s past experience covers a broad spectrum of roles in business development, marketing, strategy and engineering. Prior to joining Alvarion, he served as a director in multiple key roles for Ericsson and helped grow the company’s business in several key regions. Prior to Ericsson, Ashish was with Qualcomm, where he helped to develop some of the early CDMA systems. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of District of Columbia, a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University and a Masters of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Kurt Schaubach
Vice President, Broadband Technologies for the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC)

Kurt Schaubach, NRTC’s vice president of Broadband Technologies, develops the direction of NRTC’s broadband strategy, including the successful deployment of 4G technologies with members, spectrum management, and ensuring that NRTC offers the latest Internet and communications solutions to meet member needs.

Kurt has more than 19 years of experience in the wireless industry and 11 years of experience in senior engineering positions. This experience includes communications network design, deployment, operation and advanced technology development.

Kurt was previously Senior Vice President of Engineering at NextWave Wireless, Inc. During Kurt’s tenure, NextWave became an early provider of WiMAX products and services. Prior to joining NextWave, Kurt provided consulting services to numerous clients, including SKT/Korea Mobile Telecom, QUALCOMM, and Nextel Communications. He started his career with Southwestern Bell Technology Resources.

Kurt earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
