Using Group Policy to Manage Administrator Rights

Tuesday March 13, 2012
2:00 PM EST/ 11:00 AM PST

In every organization there exists a somewhat buried but very dangerous keyhole: the presence of local administrator accounts. Local administrator accounts sometimes created directly by users and hidden from the IT manager’s standard tracked list of administrative accounts managed by Active Directory and can be used by malware to install malicious software on local computers through the administrator account. Further penetration into the IT environment is then accessible through this loophole. This webinar presents methods to IT security and operations managers for mitigating this risk.

Peter Bernstein, Senior Editor, TMCnet will explain the approaches available to IT security and operations managers for mitigating this risk. He will review the Microsoft out-of-the box tools available to restrict user permissions, including managing user permissions through Active Directory and Group Policy and also explain the inherent limitations.

Next, Viewfinity will demonstrate its method for leveraging Group Policy to elevate privileges for standard users. We’ll show how to block applications and toolbars, allow users to self-elevate privileges on demand, custom configure security messages to end users, setup whitelists, and report, audit and validate all compliance policies.

What Attendees will learn:

  • Leverage Group Policy to elevate privileges for the standard user
  • Block applications and toolbars
  • Custom configure security messages to end users
Who should attend:
  • Active Directory and GPO managers
  • IT Managers/System Administrators
  • Desktop Operations/Administrators
