Scaling The Backhaul for LTE, Quickly and Wirelessly
Wednesday

2:00PM ET/ 11:00AM PT |
Due to the explosive bandwidth demand in mobile backhaul networks, the copper-based T1 infrastructure to cell-sites in the US is no longer adequate or cost-effective. Operators realize the market requires more scalable technology like Ethernet. Fiber is often the preferred way to get Ethernet to cell-sites, but running new fiber can be costly and time-consuming. Fortunately, operators have an alternative to get Ethernet to cell-sites, quickly and wirelessly, with microwave technology. While half the world’s cell sites are connected to the network via microwave backhaul today, it has not been as prevalent in the US but that is changing.
This webinar will take a look at LTE backhaul requirements and the role that Ethernet microwave can play as an integral part of the transport network, rather than just a simple extension. LTE and the bandwidth intensive multimedia applications it enables impose new requirements over the backhaul network including higher bandwidth, lower latency and class of service support. The webinar will examine what are the necessary elements for LTE-ready microwave equipment. It will discuss techniques to get the most out of the scarce and costly spectrum, the role of QoS schemes and MPLS-TP in these networks, major packet synchronization techniques, and how to guarantee the cost efficient support of legacy services while ensuring a risk-free migration to LTE.
