Enabling 4G Backhaul without Breaking the Bank
Wednesday September 15, 2010 11:00am PDT/ 2:00pm EDT

Advances in wireless technology have exceeded the expectations of consumers and network operators alike. As 3G networks feel the strain of users’ insatiable demand for mobile applications and the migration to 4G networks approaches, the demands on backhaul transport are becoming acute. A good example of this is the impact AT&T & Verizon have felt on their networks from devices like the iPhone and the HTC Droid. The remedy to this challenge is enhanced base-station coverage as well as deployment of 4G next-generation networks. These activities will require a dramatic expansion of backhaul capacity and coverage. Network operators already realize this need to enhance networks to manage consumer demand and are incorporating millimeter wave systems to cost-effectively expand network capacity. As 4G networks become a reality, this further complicates the challenges as backhaul connections must cost effectively scale in capacity to meet the escalating demand for higher-bandwidth mobile applications and services. This presentation focuses on 70/80 GHz high capacity wireless links as an excellent backhaul connectivity solution in terms of cost, scalability and network performance.

What Attendees will learn:
  • Characteristics of 70/80 GHz millimeter wave systems and how they differ from their lower frequency band counterparts
  • Why millimeter wave radios are ideal for next generation base station interconnect
  • How high capacity wireless links can cost effectively handle the bandwidth demands of next generation mobile networks up to and beyond GigE capacities.

Who should attend:
  • Network Operators
  • Mobile Carriers
  • Service Providers
  • Network Architecture Consultants
