IDC Report Names BroadSoft Market Leader in Voice Applications Servers
By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet
Industry research firm IDC has named BroadSoft (News - Alert) Inc. the market leader for voice applications servers.
According to IDC’s “Worldwide Voice Application Servers 2006 Market Share Update,” BroadSoft holds a 25 percent share of the worldwide voice application server
market, based on estimated 2006 revenues.
BroadSoft’s strong sales in 2006 can be attributed to the success of its award-winning BroadWorks platform. This IMS-compliant platform provides a full range of VoIP applications, all integrated together, including hosted PBX (News - Alert), IP
Centrex, mobile PBX, business trunking and residential broadband services. It uses common protocols, such as SIP, and open interfaces and thus can be used across practically any type of network infrastructure (i.e. mixed environment) to gain the much-coveted fixed-mobile convergence that service providers are seeking to deliver to their customers. With BroadWorks technology, wireless, wireline and cable carriers can deliver next-generation voice and multimedia applications and advanced features which in turn enable them to increase revenue, enhance competitive differentiation and elevate customer satisfaction.
IDC's (News - Alert) report is based on written research, analyst interactions, telebriefings, and conferences. Factoring into the report is the fact that BroadSoft is also ranked in the top 100 of Deloitte’s "2006 Technology Fast 500" in North America.
“BroadSoft was the leading supplier and in general has enjoyed the best success in terms of geographic reach, penetration of Tier 1 service providers, and strategic partnerships with Tier 1 NEPs (network equipment providers),” said Thomas Valovic, program director of VoIP
Infrastructure for IDC and author of the report, in a press release.
Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft, said the IDC report is “further evidence that BroadSoft is pulling away from the competition in the quickly expanding applications market.”
“Everyone at BroadSoft has worked tirelessly to reach and retain our leadership position, and it shows in our numbers,” Tessler said. “BroadSoft counts five of the top six telecom equipment providers as resellers, more than 40 incumbents as customers, and nearly 30 IMS
deployments worldwide.”
Among the major carriers using BroadSoft’s flexible, scalable and reliable software are Korea Telecom, KPN, Singtel, Sprint (News - Alert), Telefonica de Espana, Telstra, T-Systems and Verizon.
