Report: El Salvador's Internet, Telecom Market to Double

Pyramid Research, the telecom research arm of the Light Reading Communications Network, has announced the release of its latest report, “Communications Markets in El Salvador,” and finding is that the El Salvadorian Internet and Telecommunications related market will double in size in five years because of the impetus provided by its population’s growing adoption of mobile data services, fixed broadband and pay TV.

“Mobile services and broadband have been the engine for growth with penetration of the population closing at 100 percent and 2 percent, respectively, in 2008,” said Jose Magana, Analyst and Author of the report, Pyramid Research. “Pyramid expects that the Salvadorian telecommunications markets will see most growth from mobile data services, fixed broadband, and pay TV, all of which are underpenetrated segments as of 2009.”

Officials at the company claim that the El Salvadorian market share still holds only the 12th position in South America and the telecommunications industry is predicted to generate $1.5 billion in 2009 based on a detailed Compound Annual Growth Rate Year over Year analysis.

“Mobile data services is expected to grow at a CAGR of 22.6 percent over the next five years, thanks to infotainment services such as music, ringtones, mobile video, and mobile Internet,” Magana said. “Pyramid anticipates operators will focus their efforts on promoting data services as 3G handsets will account for 36 percent of the total base by 2014 from 4 percent in 2009.”

The research report highlights that data services are forecast to grow at a CAGR of 21 percent over the next five years with both fixed and mobile broadband posting more than 9.9 percent growth improvements.

“Broadband penetration will advance from 3.0 percent in 2009 to 7.7 percent in 2014, driven by a constant price decline pushed by the uptake of bundled packages,” Magana said.

The market analysis report offers, claim company officials, detailed coverage of: the country’s converged and competitive reviews f telecommunications, media, and technology sectors, both the fixed and mobile sectors; tracks the market shares of technologies and services, and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies such as WiMAX, IPTV (News - Alert), and VoIP; and. the Salvadorian communications market by analyzing key trends, evaluating near-term opportunities, and assessing upcoming risks and factors.

An earlier TMCnet report indicated that South America, Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Sub Continent, and Eastern Europe will combine together to generate $4 billion in WiMAX (News - Alert) revenue by 2014.

A different analysis report found that Web Conferencing and Real Time Collaboration services market segment all over South America, TMCnet reported, generated more than $10.6 million in revenue in 2008, and the figure is predicted to close in on $33 million during 2014.
