Strategy Analytics (News - Alert) research indicates that customers in the United States and Western Europe rate mobile phones with cameras above other additional features. The higher the resolution of the camera, the more inclined a customer is to buy the mobile even if the cost is higher.

The survey of close to 3000 mobile wireless device owners also revealed that video capability, playing music and add-on memory cards are also high on the list of must-have features on a mobile phone. As with the inclination for higher resolution cameras, higher capacity memory cards, too, are preferred.

Chris Schreiner, Senior User Experience Analyst at Strategy Analytics said that over 60 percent of all those surveyed are ready to shell out more for a higher resolution camera which is integrated in the mobile and is irrespective of age. Kevin Nolan, Vice President of the Strategy Analytics User Experience Practice said "Cameras, video cameras and music players are quickly becoming table stakes when consumers shop for mobile devices. They also requested additional memory in order to store this media.”

The convenience of being able to get prime quality photo and audio-video capture and storage on a single integrated multi functional mobile device is the foremost reason for consumers demanding enhanced cameras and larger memory storage. The mobile phone market in India has also seen a three percent increased demand in mobile phones with cameras.

Another emerging technology, which will only increase the demand for higher resolution cameras, is the futuristic live video transmission from a mobile in which live interviews and keynote speeches, for example, can be aired as the event is happening.
