CEA: Digital TV Transition On Track in U.S.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced that, barely six months since America decided to shift to digital television, all transitions are right on track, and almost complete.

"As we approach this historic finish line, I am pleased that decades of hard work, unprecedented public and private partnerships and countless hours of consumer education are working," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO at CEA, in a statement.

Research has shown that the understanding of the benefits of shifting to digital television has been widely successful. This has in turn accelerated the adoption of the same. CEA claims that many consumers have been applying for coupons and purchasing digital-to-analog converter boxes.

The number of adopters is expected to rise steadily, even as more Americans are seen as prospective buyers of a new digital television (DTV). The number of TV sets sold this year is expected to cross a whopping 32 million, making it a record breaking year for DTV sales.

"We continue to recognize and understand the need to ensure a smooth DTV transition. Together with our industry and government partners, we are committed to ensuring that television viewers do not lose service because they were not aware of the transition or their options," Shapiro said.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is a trade association that concentrates on promoting the $173 billion U.S. consumer industry, adding to its growth, subtracting its losses. It is the industry authority on market research and forecasts; consumer surveys; legislative and regulatory news; engineering standards; training resources and more.
It has over 2,200 companies on its members list. These members enjoy all the benefits of the membership, including legislative advocacy, market research, technical training and education, industry promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships.

Apart from giving periodic survey results on the success or failure of a product in the market, it also helps a member Stay in touch with key industry leaders, government representatives, buyers, the media and others through CEA conferences, meetings and online forums.

The CEA produces the International CES (News - Alert), the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow.
