Infonetics Research (News - Alert), an international market research and consulting firm has released excerpts of its March “Service Delivery Platform Software and Services” report. Results show double digit percent growth in SDP software services.

The biannual SDP report forecasts through 2016 providing both regional and worldwide results. It tracks revenue, SDP services and five SDP components: subscribers, framework, service creation, orchestration, and web service environment. The top five vendors tracked include Huawei, Ericsson (News - Alert), Alcatel-Lucent, Oracle and IBM.

Shira Levine, Infonetics Research’s directing analyst of next generation OSS and policy, talked about a trend toward cloud-based computing in recent months. Levine stated in a press release, “We’re seeing growing demand for alternatives such as cloud-based delivery, turnkey application storefronts for consumer and enterprise customers, and revenue-sharing models, and we expect that trend to continue as operators look to create a more predictable cost structure around their SDP deployments.”

The SDP report states the SDP market grew 16 percent between 2010 and 2011. Infonetics Research estimates the SDP software and services market to become a $5.8 billion industry worldwide by 2016. Much of this growth is in the cloud SDP environment with Huawei leading the way in this area. Oracle (News - Alert) remains the top choice for SDP software, according to the report.

Infonetics Research points out that growth in the SDP software and services market is in large part due to several key factors. These factors include developing enterprise and consumer app stores, customized mobile advertising, increasing content downloads by broadband subscribers, and developing API enabling a richer environment of content partners.
