Content Security Market Rebounds, Outlook Looks Positive: Report

The global content security gateway appliance and software sales grew 8 percent during the 2nd quarter, 2011, with Cisco (News - Alert) rising to become the top vendor.

Market analyst firm Infonetics Research, which has released its quarterly report on the market, said the outlook for the third quarter was positive.

“In the network security appliance and software market, all of the major network security vendors are poised for growth in 3Q11, with most growing in the 5 percent to 10 percent range for the quarter," expects Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research (News - Alert).

In 2010, the worldwide content security market grew by 19 percent from the previous year to reach $2.7 billion. Infonetics forecasts the content security appliance and software market will grow to $3.9 billion by 2015.

In overall content security market, Cisco is in the second place, close behind McAfee. If only the content security appliance segment is taken into consideration, Cisco appears to be at number one slot, ahead of Blue Coat (News - Alert), the research firm clarified.

Interestingly, Check Point is moving into 2nd ahead of Juniper on the strength of its revenue increase in 2Q11.

But the analyst firm believes Cisco is less likely to protect its number one position in the 3rd quarter but says most of the content security gateway vendors may increase their revenue further because of the possible federal spending.

In the meantime, the report added, worldwide network security appliance and software market grew 4 percent in 2Q11 to $1.37 billion.
