Report Highlights the Benefit of Telepresence
By Rahul Prabhakar, TMCnet Contributor
Telepresence (News - Alert) is a high bandwidth video-collaboration technology that delivers high-definition video images and stereophonic sounds for a real-time experience during video conferencing sessions.
Though it requires an expensive set up, wherein a comprehensive conference room has to be custom-built to house the sophisticated video conferencing equipment, operating via proprietary network technology, its long-term benefits certainly outweigh the initial costs incurred.
In its recently released autonomous report, titled, “Telepresence: Seeing is Believing,” Brockmann & Company, a consulting and advisory firm providing valuable customer insights about upcoming technologies to high tech equipment application vendors and service providers, has drawn attention to the many advantages of employing Telepresence as a mode of communication and collaboration with distant employees This communication is used in lieu of conventional and time-consuming long-distance travel as well as in place of relatively inefficient web conferencing techniques.
The insights in the report are delivered after comparative research and in-depth analysis, and voice the opinion of nearly 360 commercial users communicating via conferencing services across the world.
Peter Brockmann, president of Brockmann & Company, said in a statement, “Telepresence users are ‘eco-friendly’. They are willing to pay 55% more to avoid driving 40 miles than the desktop video conferencing users discussed in our last report, ‘The Desktop Video Conferencing Experience.’ for this class of users’ reliability, ease of operation and manageability are the most important decision criteria. Having done business with the vendor in the past was a surprisingly low ranking.”
“Travel is the preferred alternative to telepresence for telepresence users, while for desktop video conferencing users the alternative was audio conference calls.” added Brockmann.
