As Skype's Chief Product Strategist, Rodrigo Madanes works with the senior
management team to orchestrate the company's product vision and strategy for the
upcoming 2-3 year period.
Previously, Rodrigo was General Manager, Product Design, where he was
responsible for designing all of Skype's easy-to-use software products and the cool
features that make it compelling. This ranges from the User Interface (UI) design of
the well-known Skype for Windows, which has been downloaded more than 250
million times, to emerging products such as Wi-Fi phones and the 3 Skypephone.
Rodrigo joined Skype in June 2005. Prior to this, his career has included roles as
CTO of Certant, researcher at Apple and software developer at Oracle.
He enjoys thinking about mental models, affordances, activity theory, metaphors,
social cognition, ethnography, usability and user-centered design.
Rodrigo holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology from UC Berkeley - where he was a
Spencer Fellow - as well as a B.S. in Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT).
