Grand Opening Session
featuring...

Mun-Yuen Leong,
Chief Technology Officer for Avaya opens this year's conference with
his vision of the amazing benefits offered by Converged
Communications. Come hear the insightful perspective of a true
market leader in IP telephony.
9:45 - 10:30 am
Quality of Service For Real-Time Network Management
Sid Nag, Founder/CEO/President, Prominence Networks
Brian Glinsman, Executive Director, Texas Instruments
As long as the only difference between service providers is
price, you can expect consumers to jump around from carrier to
carrier so long as they're getting the cheapest plan. But factor in
a few simple additional services, like follow-me, or access to a
personalized Web-based directory, and suddenly you have a customer
who might not be so willing to switch. Bundle in even more
"must-have" services, for the right price, and you have a customer
who will swear allegiance to you like you never thought possible.
This session will provide a roadmap for service providers trying to
retain their hard-won customers and to attract a new generation of
loyal customers as well.
11:45 am - 12:30
pm
Local Number Portability Update
Amol Joshi, VP of Marketing,
BayPackets
Greg Smith, President & CEO,
Accudata Technologies
To increase competition in the local telephone market service,
Congress directed local telephone companies to offer telephone
number portability in accordance with requirements prescribed by the
FCC, with the stated goals of ensuring that all Americans have the
ability to keep their existing telephone number at the same location
when changing local telephone service providers; promoting
competition in the local telephone market; and implementing this new
service without degradation in the quality of telecommunications
service. Come to this session to hear how Local Number Portability
has fared in its first months of existence and what effects this
regulation has had on the next-gen telecommunications market at
large.
1:30 - 3:15 pm

enterprise customers coming back for more (and paying that monthly
premium to do so) would do well to consider offering IP Centrex
services. A savvy service provider will be able to bundle not only
traditional phone functions such as hold, transfer, conference, etc…
but also next-generation services such as unified communications,
Web-enabled directory services, and more. Come see what the buzz is
all about, and learn what IP Centrex can do for you.

Tales from the Trenches: Carrier Success Stories
Mark Peck, Director of Wireless Product
Management, dynamicsoft, Inc.
Come to hear true tales of deployment from a Service Provider who
has "bitten the bullet" to implement next-generation packet
telephony products and services. Learn and benefit from their
experiences. You'll gain insights into the problems they
encountered, the mistakes they made and the lessons they learned —
and in the process avoid costly backtracking, false starts, and
delays in your own network strategy. This is truly a can't-miss
session for the service provider looking to chart a clear course to
the network of the future.
9:00 - 9:45 am
Next-Generation Switching Options Explored
Dan Dearing, VP Marketing,
NexTone Communications
A vast array of recent developments such as faster network
access, increased use of the Internet, greater proliferation of
technology driving greater network usage, etc… have placed a
tremendous burden on the switching infrastructure deployed at the
network's edge. In order to keep pace with the rapid changes and
increases in network usage, it's become necessary to consider
alternatives to the existing class of equipment that serves as the
point of entry into the carrier's network. Come explore the state of
next-generation switching technology, focusing on the needs and
requirements of existing infrastructure as well as efficient and
scalable provisioning of emerging services.
12:45 - 2:30 pm
Super Session
Border Crossing: The Increasing Importance of Session Border
Controllers
Kevin Klett, Vice President,
Acme Packet
Konstantin Nikashov, VP Development,
MERA Networks
Micaela Giuhat, Asst. Vice President
of Product Management, Netrake Corporation
Kevin Klett, Vice President Product Management,
Acme Packet
Tim Thornton, CTO, Quintum
Jon Arnold, Program Leader, VoIP Equipment, Frost & Sullivan
Session border controllers are rapidly emerging as a necessary
category of network equipment for bridging the VoIP islands
currently deployed at IP-enabled enterprises and forward thinking
service providers. These devices enable a certain level of control
over IP-based communication (voice, video, multimedia, etc…)
crossing the IP/IP borders that exist between an enterprise and
service provider or between two service providers. Come to this
session to learn more about this exciting new development in VoIP
deployment.
2:45 - 3:30 pm
Real Time Billing for Softswitches, Media Servers
and Other IP Voice Application Platforms
Eric Hernaez, President,
telic.net
Traditional TDM switch makers look at billing as something they
don't need to worry about. Talk to any switch guy about billing and
he will likely say "we let the billing vendors worry about that."
Billing vendors, on the other hand, typically know very little about
switching and routing. The result is that with few exceptions
switching vendors have simply adapted to the only IP billing
protocol that was available - RADIUS. However, having been designed
for dial-up Internet access, RADIUS is inherently ill-suited for
billing voice services. And when RADIUS extensions are used (called
Vendor Specific Attributes or VSAs), the solutions become
proprietary and inflexible resulting in a significant impediment to
the introduction of new IP-based voice services. Come discuss
possibilities available with today's existing solutions and point
out the pitfalls involved in attempting to deploy new IP-based voice
services amidst this environment.
3:45 - 4:30 pm
ENUM: IP-Enabling The Global Telephone Directory
Rom Mattesich, CEO, Stratum1, Inc.
Tom Kershaw, Vice President of VoIP, VeriSign
