DKT International Commits to 'Vasectomy Without Borders' During World Vasectomy Day 2019

DKT International, one of the largest providers of family planning, contraceptives, and safe abortions in the world is proud to continue its partnership with World Vasectomy Day (WVD). This year, WVD brings its headquarters to Colombia from November 18-22 to celebrate its 7th anniversary with the theme of 'Vasectomy Without Borders".

"World Vasectomy Day is more than just an observance day, it's a global movement that promotes gender equality, male participation in the responsibility of family planning and social good. DKT stands proudly with this movement as it is our mission to raise awareness of how critical family planning is to the greater good of all people," says Chris Purdy, CEO of DKT International. "I'm honored to kick off global celebrations on November 18 at the WVD International Conference with one of Colombia's leading universities and take part in raising awareness and spreading knowledge."

The number of vasectomies performed on WVD has increased each year worldwide-16,000 men stepped up in their family planning responsibilities in 2018 alone. Activities will take place in upwards of 40 countries with participation from DKT Mexico, DKT Brazil, DKT Philippines, and DKT India. In Mexico, DKT will partner with WVD to provide conraceptives and vasectomies to refugees, migrants, or those who may not have direct access to these services.

Other WVD activities include:

  • Vasectomy Without Borders National Tour: A 9 city tour across Colombia in a mobile media van to increase awareness of vasectomies throughout the country.
  • 2nd International WVD Conference (November 18): An all-day International Symposium on male-focused Sexual and Reproductive Health issues co-sponsored with Profamilia, Colombia's leading provider of family planning services and University of the Andes, one of the nation's leading universities. The event covers both clinical and socio-cultural perspectives of vasectomy.
  • World Vasectomy Day (November 22): With a day-long live-streamed 'vasectomy-athon' that links Bogota, Colombia with 40 countries around the world. Activities include a men's health fair and public event with music, speeches, live vasectomies, theater and interactive media.

"We are thrilled to see World Vasectomy Day continue to inspire men all around the world to acknowledge their role in family planning. In the coming year, we will take the first steps towards a World Vasectomy Day Center for Excellence in Vasectomy and Male Engagement in Family Planning. This center will be the first of its kind and offer service provision, capacity building, and demand generation, couples with clinical practice and research," says Jonathan Stack, Founder of WVD. "We can't wait to see what's in store- this is only the beginning!"
