Strategic LTE Expansion Allows TNS to Support More US Outbound Roaming Traffic to the Caribbean

Transaction Network Services (TNS (News - Alert)) has revealed a series of investments in the TNS-powered CCA LTE Roaming Hub (Hub) which increases its Caribbean coverage to more than 17,000 square miles and introduces an innovative new GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP) Proxy facility for enhanced efficiency.

Several Caribbean operators that cover the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas have joined the Hub as roaming partners. The Hub, through existing carrier members, also supports US travelers to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Turks and Caicos, Saint Vincent, and the British Virgin Islands.

TNS' new Hub GTP Proxy facility has been designed to manage the routing of GTP-C and GTP-U traffic and map the allocated IP addresses to a roaming partner's packet gateway and GPRS support node. A GTP proxy allows single IP connection and less testing required for individual operators.

"We're delighted to be expanding our Caribbean coverage and adding support for countries like the Dominican Republic which is the fourth most popular international tourist destination for US travelers globally," said Bill Versen, TNS' Chief Product Officer. "We now also centralize and manage implementation testing to remove the need for special connection configurations nd offer complete transparency of roaming traffic directly into an operator's existing processes. This allows carriers to quickly and easily see subscriber roaming patterns as well as the duration and costs incurred for streamlined clearing and billing practices.

"The GTP Proxy makes it easier to connect to the Hub, giving improved AA.73 value. It also supports policy control features like data capping, alerts, throttling and automated roaming greetings, giving carriers an enhanced set of tools which they can deploy as required."

Steven K. Berry, President and CEO of CCA, said, "This is exciting news for the CCA community and Tier-2 and -3 carriers everywhere. The Caribbean is a popular destination for subscribers, and we're extremely pleased to see that TNS is helping improve the subscriber roaming experience across the region by making these key investments in the CCA LTE Roaming Hub."

The CCA LTE (News - Alert) Roaming Hub provides operators with a large, seamless footprint that supports efficient VoLTE, enables roaming to and from 4G LTE without circuit-switched fall back to 3G, and provides inbound roaming revenue opportunities. Within the US, the coverage offered is more than a regional operator could get from any individual Tier-1 operator.

From small rural operators in the US to the largest multi-national carriers, TNS has over 500 operator customers and comprehensively addresses the needs of wireless and wireline operators globally. Since its founding in 1990, TNS has grown to provide services in more than 60 countries across the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific region, and offers 24x7x365 support via its Network Operating Centers in the US, UK, and Australia.
