Simpson Thacher Elects Eleven New Partners


Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP announced yesterday that it has elected eleven attorneys as members of the Firm effective January 1, 2019. The new partners are:

Naveed Anwar (Palo Alto (News - Alert)) - Naveed specializes in public and private mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions. He regularly advises private equity firms and companies on a wide range of transactions and corporate governance matters. He received his L.P.C. in 2007 and his G.D.L. in 2006 from the University of Law, London and his B.A., with honours, and his M.Eng., with honours, from the University of Cambridge in 2004.

Samuel H. Charlton (London) - Sam is a member of the Firm's Real Estate Department. He concentrates his practice on private equity real estate acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures on behalf of leading international fund sponsors. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 2010 and his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in 2007.

Bradley P. Goldberg (New York) - Brad is Head of the Firm's Public Company Advisory Practice - Private Equity. He advises companies on all aspects of their compliance with the U.S. securities laws and the listing requirements of the major U.S. exchanges and regularly counsels management, boards of directors and board committees on a wide range of corporate governance matters. He received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School in 2001, where he was a member of the Southern California Law Review, and his B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1997.

Makiko Harunari (Hong Kong) - Makiko is Head of the Firm's Asia Banking and Credit Practice. She regularly represents financial sponsors, corporate borrowers and financial institutions in complex cross-border financing transactions throughout the Asia-Pacific region, including acquisition finance, real estate finance, back-leverage finance and fund finance. Makiko received her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University School of Law in 2007 and her B.A. from Yale University in 2001. She is also a CFA Charterholder.

Steven R. Klar (New York) - Steven is a member of the Firm's Privte Funds Practice. He represents various sponsors of private equity funds, including buyout funds, real estate funds, secondary funds and other alternative investment funds on fundraisings, co-investments, managed accounts and structured secondary transactions as well as ongoing advisory matters. Steven received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law in 2009 and his B.S. in 2003 from Yeshiva University, Sy Syms School of Business.



Jeannine McSweeney (New York) - Jeannine advises clients on executive compensation and employee benefit arrangements, including equity-based incentives, cash-based incentives, deferred compensation, retirement plans and employment, retention and severance agreements, with particular emphasis on issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and joint ventures. She received her LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2008, her M.B.A., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University Whitman School of Management and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law, both in 2006, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Rochester in 2003.

Erland Modesto (Houston) - Erland advises clients on banking, credit and other corporate matters, with a particular focus on the energy sector. He represents lenders and borrowers in acquisition, reserve-based financings and other corporate financings. He received his J.D., with honors, from University of Texas School of Law in 2010 and his B.A. from Boston College in 2007.


Juan M. Naveira (New York) - Juan concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance transactions involving Latin America. He represents companies across industries as well as financial institutions and private equity firms. He received his LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2007 and his LL.B. from Universidad Catolica Argentina-School of Law in 2003.

Jakob Rendtorff (New York) - Jakob concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions. He regularly represents strategic clients and private equity firms on a broad range of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and spin-offs. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2008 and his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 2005, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Brian E. Rosenzweig (Houston) - Brian's practice is focused on corporate finance transactions with a particular emphasis on the energy sector. He represents corporate issuers, private equity sponsors and underwriters in connection with offerings of debt and equity securities, including initial public offerings, high yield offerings, acquisition financings and liability management transactions. He received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 2008 and his B.A. from Cornell University, with distinction in all subjects, in 2005.

Whitney W. Salinas (New York) - Whitney is a member of the Firm's Real Estate Department. She regularly represents private equity firms on a broad range of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and real estate financings. Whitney received her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2009 and her B.A. in 2006 from Northwestern University.
