Connecting the World Upon Cloud: China Unicom Hosts 2018 International Partners Meeting


HONG KONG, June 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 26, 2018, China Unicom hosted its 2018 International Partners Meeting in Shanghai. The theme of this year's meeting is "Connecting the World Upon Cloud". More than 400 guests, including world-renowned telecommunications service providers and China Unicom's partners in the "cloud and Internet ecosystem", attended the meeting.

Lu Yimin, President of China Unicom, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech, titled "Collaboratively Embrace the Major Trends of Transformation." He said that the telecommunications industry was a major contributor to the rapid development of the digital economy in China. Telecom operators drive and empower the digital age, and lay a solid foundation for the digitalization of China. In recent years, China Unicom, in order to meet the demand of digitalization, has implemented a development strategy characterized by "Focus, Innovation and Cooperation." It has been leveraging the mixed-ownership reform to accelerate its own Internetization. So far, it has achieved remarkable results in several fields, such as the integration of the cloud and the Internet, big data, 5G and the Industrial Internet. In terms of integrating the cloud and the Internet, China Unicom, with its superior resources in Cloud-based services and network deployment solutions, has launched a powerful system of products, named "Yun Guang Hui Qi." This system will provide integrated services such as cloud-based network, cloud-based circuit, and cloud-based Internet. It features autonomous services and fast initiation, to satisfy the customers' needs for extensive coverage, high reliaility, and flexible deployment. As for big data, China Unicom is a pioneer in establishing a PB-level national database with nearly 5,000 cluster nodes and processing 77 billion pieces of location data per day. Recently, it has entered into partnerships with over 700 organizations from 17 different sectors, forming a diversified portfolio. In the field of 5G, China Unicom has launched 5G trials in 16 cities, and will organize real-life demonstrations and pilot commercialization programs in 2019. Official commercialization of 5G is scheduled for 2020. In addition, as the official telecommunication service partner for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, China Unicom will utilize 5G technology to deliver content to hundreds of millions of viewers around the world with full-scene and ultra-high-definition viewing experience. As to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), China Unicom will prioritize its "Platform + Ecosystem" strategy by building innovative platforms, fostering industrial ecosystems, and creating specialized Internet companies to improve productivity and expand the room for revenue growth. In the end, Mr. Lu, on behalf of China Unicom, called on all global partners to make joint efforts to speed up the integration of the cloud and the Internet, the implementation of 5G, and in-depth cooperation in fields such as the Industrial Internet. Mr. Hu Xiaoming, President of Alibaba Cloud, Mr. Dowson Tong, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent, Ms. Liu Duo, President of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Mr. Johannes Kaumanns, Vice President of IoT Strategy & Business Development of T-Systems, and Mr. Li Qingfeng, Vice President of Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, which is a client of Wo Cloud, gave speeches exploring the models of the cloud and Internet ecosystem in their respective fields.


During the meeting, China Unicom featured a product launch with the theme, "Connecting the World Upon Cloud". The executives in charge of the program gave an overview of China Unicom's blueprint for strategic integration of the cloud and the Internet globally, as well as its cutting-edge cloud and IoT products and solutions.

China Unicom International Partners Meeting has been held for 13 consecutive years since 2006. It has become an important platform for global telecommunications service providers to exchange ideas and share resources. Through the platform, China Unicom has built and maintained good partnerships with more than 100 global telecom operators and multinational companies. During the meeting, China Unicom had more than 30 bilateral meetings with partners from various industries in order to help global telecom partners deepen their understanding of the Chinese telecommunications industry and facilitate sharing and cooperation among telecommunications service providers worldwide.
