Daniel Schlessinger Elected Chair of Hebrew University Board of Governors

The law firm of Jaszczuk P.C. is exceptionally proud to announce that the Board of Governors of Hebrew University has unanimously elected Daniel I. Schlessinger, a partner at Jaszczuk P.C., as the University's next Chair of the Board of Governors.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was established in 1918 by, among others, Albert Einstein, and is consistently ranked among the top universities in the world. Serving over 23,000 students from 90 countries, the university produces one third of Israel's civilian research and is ranked 12th worldwide in biotechnology patent filings and commercial development. Located across six campuses in Israel, Hebrew University has more than 100 research centers, affiliations with five teaching hospitals, and 320 academic agreements with institutions in 57 countries. In addition to Einstein, the university's first Board of Governors included Sigmund Freud, Chaim Bialik, Martin Buber, and Chaim Weizmann. Four of Israel's prime ministers are alumni of the Hebrew University. As of 2017, eight Nobel Prize winners, one Fields Medalist, and one Turing Award winner have been affiliated with the University.

Mr. Schlessinger commented, "I am deeply honored to be elected to this challenging but rewarding position. This year marks the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's 100th anniversary; a time for reflecting on the institution's rich history and for planning its continued success. I look forward to working with the university's administrators and international Board of Governors to ensure another century of discovery, innovation and excellence."

Martin Jaszczuk, one of the firm's founders, stated: "Dan has served as a mentor to many of our firm's lawyers for many years. Under his tutelage we grew not only as attorneys, but also as individuals serving our respective communities. The life lessons Dan taught us-and continues to teach us on a daily basis-are prescient, and we cannot think of anyone better-suited to lead one of the world's most prestigious and historic educational institutions all while maintaining a thriving full-time legal practice. We are privileged to have Dan as our leader and are certain that the Board of Governors, the faculty, and the students of Hebrew University, share our enthusiasm."

Mr. Schlessinger has over thirty-five years' experience as a lawyer in Chicago. He served as Managing Partner and Chairman of Lord Bissell & Brook from 2001 through 2004, helping elevate the firm's commitment to diversity and pro bono service. He is the former Co-Vice Chair of Locke Lord's Executive Committee. He has represented pro bono clients through the National Immigrant Justice Center and Chicago Volunteer Legal Service, which twice gave him its Volunteer of the Year Award. He has previously been named Alumnus of the Year by the University of Illinois College of Law, and received the American Friends of the Hebrew University's Torch of Learning Award.

Mr. Schlessinger is a Chicago native and has lived a majority of his life in Hyde Park.
