Igloo's Latest Study Exposes Major Shortfalls in Collaboration and Knowledge Management Practices Among U.S. Organizations

The digital workplace solutions provider's 2018 State of the Digital Workplace study of 1000 U.S. employees also revealed a third of all employees would use Google to find their company logo

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario, June 5, 2018 /CNW/ -- Igloo Software, the leading provider of digital workplace solutions, released findings from their latest study, "State of the Digital Workplace 2018" which surveyed 1,000 employees and uncovered key reasons organizations need to act now to improve how information is accessed, stored, and shared.  

In addition to finding employees lack a central hub for storing company documents and information, Igloo found policies and guidelines around security and privacy are largely unclear.

Findings from the study include:

• 32 percent of employees have avoided sharing a document with a colleague because it would take too long to find.
• 27 percent of employees are not familiar with their company's guidelines for sharing information stored on their organization's intranet.
• 41 percent of employees use non-sanctioned apps in the workplace because that's what they use in their personal lives.
• 31 percent of employees would obtain their company logo from a Google search.

"It's alarming to see how many organizations lack clear collaboration and knowledge management solutions," sai Mike Hicks, Vice President, Marketing & Strategy at Igloo Software. "Employees should always have convenient access to the most recent documents and company policies, and it's up to organizations to make this information easily available company-wide."

In addition to general findings around knowledge management at organizations, Igloo Software examined different industries and departments within organizations to uncover disparities in knowledge management practices. Questions centered around app use at the workplace, security, and practices for sharing and accessing documents.

Departmental and industry findings include:

• 53 percent of healthcare professionals are only somewhat confident that a document they are accessing is the most updated version.
• Among financial services employees surveyed, 48 percent are only somewhat confident the information stored on their organization's intranet is secure.
• 40 percent of HR professionals have avoided sharing a document with a co-worker because it would be too difficult to find.
