D2l Teaming With Ilinniapaa Skills Development Centre to Support Continuous Learning for Inuit Workforce

Kitchener, Canada, May 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Global learning technology leader D2L today announced that ilinniapaa Skills Development Centre (iSDC) is leveraging its learning platform, Brightspace, to provide training and skills development for unregulated Inuit workers across Canada.

Based in Iqualit, Nunavut, the iSDC focuses on delivering skills and pre-employment training for indigenous people across Canada’s northern region. With funding support through the “Qanuininnirmut Ikajuqtiit: An Innovative Model in the Training and Employability of Inuit in Health and Social Services,” project, in collaboration with Tungasuvvingat Inuit in Ottawa, D2L will provide the opportunity for Inuit learners to achieve accreditation as an Inuit Community Support Worker, while also developing organizational management and leadership skills to support greater Inuit representation across all levels of a social service organization.

D2L enables iSDC to extend its skills development training to Inuit learners in urban, rural and isolated communities across Canada. iSDC is taking a blended approach to ensure that students are able to access the same course content and interact with instructors wherever they are with ease, as well as facilitate self-paced learning on the D2L platform.

“We have been very impressed in our work with D2L across the board,” said Helen Roos, President of iSDC. “From the platform’s robust capabilities to the quality of project management, design expertise and technical support we receive, D2L is a true partner as we work to deliver an innovative program that allows us to meet Iuit learners where they are and develop the skills they need to continue moving forward in their career.”

“We are excited to be teaming with ilinniapaa Skills Development Centre to ensure Inuit social service workers have access to continuous learning and development,” said John Baker, President and CEO of D2L. “Our common passion for learning is clear, and we are thrilled to be playing a part in helping Inuit communities grow and thrive.”
