BioGENEius Challenge 2018 BioSTEM Leader Awardee

Today, the Biotechnology Institute announced the winner of the BioSTEM Leader Award, who will be recognized next week at the 2018 Biotechnology Industry Organization Annual Convention (BIO 2018) in Boston.

We would not have the quality of national excellence at the BioGENEius Challenge or the talent to feed our future biotechnology workforce were it not for the critical learning programs offered by this year's BioSTEM Leader Awardee, the Boston Leadership Institute.

Created in 2011, BLI strengthens STEM education in the Boston area and beyond with a focus on developing the future workforce for the life sciences industry by nourishing a passion for science and math in our next generation of scientists. The Institute's programs have received numerous awards including being named one of five top summer science programs in the U.S. alongside programs at MIT (News - Alert), the University of Chicago, and UCLA by the New York Tims Subsidiary, ThoughtCo.

The Boston Leadership Institute selects outstanding high school students for three-week immersive programs where they develop high-level research skills and subject matter expertise that strengthen their credentials for college admissions, job interviews, and promising careers in biotechnology. Just a sampling of the diverse programs available to students include Biomedical Engineering, Biotech & Pharma Drug Discovery, Biological and Chemistry Research, Synthetic Biology, Forensic Science, Human Genetics, Marine Biology, Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry, STEM Entrepreneurship, Anatomy & Surgical Research, Clinical Trials, Contagious Disease, and Emergency Medicine. Students take their knowledge outside of the classroom and go on field trips to learn in and tour research facilities or to interact with museum exhibits. Projects culminate in a student research conference where students present their individual projects.

The Institute's alumni have been accepted to elite universities all across the country including Yale, Dartmouth, Tufts, Columbia, Michigan, Boston University, Washington University St. Louis, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Cornell and many more. Their instructors have won major awards for excellence in teaching and received professional recognition. They bring years of experience teaching high-achieving students from the nation's best colleges and secondary schools.
