The Standard Charitable Foundation Announces Three Grants to Local Nonprofits

The Standard Charitable Foundation, Standard Insurance Company's charitable foundation, today announced three grants totaling $60,000 to nonprofits in Portland, Oregon. The recipients are: Portland Homeless Family Solutions, Portland Youth Builders and Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, Inc.

"Each of these partners is addressing pressing needs in our community and we're grateful to play a part in their success," said Greg Ness, chairman of The Standard Charitable Foundation and chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. "These nonprofits help families experiencing homelessness and low-income youth facing barriers to academic success, and they provide children with special needs access to nature and outdoor adventures."

Portland Homeless Family Solutions: $20,000 was awarded to help purchase a building and adjacent apartments in the Lents Neighborhood in order to expand their services and to be closer to the homeless families they serve. PHFS empowers homeless families with children to get back into housing and to stay there long-term.

Portland Youth Builders: $25,000 was awarded to help redevelop a 10,000 square foot school to accommodate low-income youth services in East Portland. The project will create more usable space for student counseling and increase access to academic and technology programming for youth who face barriers to success in school and their careers.

Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, Inc.: $15,000 was awarded to help families with special needs children afford to attendsummer camp. The Family Camp program is a way for children with developmental and physical disabilities - including Autism, Down syndrome and Cerebral Palsy - to experience the outdoors in a safe environment with parents and trained staff.
