Invaluable Fully Compliant with New European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

Invaluable, the world's leading online marketplace for fine art, antiques and collectibles, has taken required steps to further strengthen users' privacy rights and to better and more clearly inform them of the company's policies regarding the collection, storage, and use of personal data.

The changes to Invaluable's User Privacy Policy come as a new data protection law, known as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), takes effect in the European Economic Area (EEA) on May 25. Invaluable - historically a leader in online art market data protections - is fully compliant with these new requirements and has met or exceeded all previous U.S. and European privacy standards, said Invaluable CEO Rob Weisberg.

Invaluable is the only live bidding online auction marketplace to be certified as Privacy Shield compliant by the U.S. Commerce Department and the European Commission. That certification, obtained in 2016, outlines requirements for securing handling personal data. https://www.privacyshield.gov/list.

"Amidst the changes, some important things at Invaluable remain the same: our commitment to keeping auction house and user data safe, our policy of not selling or renting user information to third-parties and our practice of collecting only the information we need to deliver the services our users request," sad Weisberg.

"We have worked hard to lead the online art and auction industry in protecting personal data, knowing how important privacy is to our sellers and buyers. We get it, and our track record and policies reflect that," added Weisberg.

Here are highlights of the changes in the privacy policy and the user experience:

  • Updates to the privacy policy and Terms of Use to clarify the ways Invaluable collects and uses personal information.
  • Clear explanations of users' data rights, including how EEA users can access and request to delete information from Invaluable's database.
  • As of May 25, 2018, all users will be asked to agree to the new User Privacy Policy upon logging in or when signing up for an account.
  • There will be a notice on the site that explains how Invaluable uses cookies and information in the privacy policy on how to disable certain types of cookies from a user's browser.
