HTC Vive Studios And Sixense Debut SiegeVR At GDC

SAN FRANCISCO and LOS GATOS, Calif., March 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Vive Studios™, the virtual reality (VR) content development and publishing initiative from HTC VIVE™, and Sixense Studios™, the VR content development initiative from Sixense Enterprises™, a global leader in full-presence VR/AR solutions, today announced their partnership with the launch of a new VR eSports game, SiegeVR™.  Attendees at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, March 21 through 23 will be able to demo SiegeVR and compete for a chance to win one of five Vives at the Sixense booth (1201) in the South Hall.

Developed by Sixense Studios, SiegeVR is a virtual reality eSports experience that puts players in a medieval archer avatar. Competitors can challenge friends and strangers in the fast-paced Gallery PVP mode, where victory is a matter of out-shooting and out-thinking your opponent. Team up and defend your castle in the exciting Siege mode, using a variety of specialized arrows to defeat a relentless onslaught of battering rams, catapults and ground forces. Kick back and practice your trick shots, or test your skills against competitors worldwide on the global leaderboards. SiegeVR launches on Steam on March 21, 2018, allowing Vive owners to experience the ultimate test of their archery skills in virtual reality.

"With VR on the HTC Vive, we can deliver a more realistic, competitive experience from virtual sports that mimics real life sport tournaments," said Joel Breton, HTC VIVE, VP Global Content.  "This collaboration with Sixense on SiegeVR allows us to bring a new type of eSports experience to novices and experienced gamers alike that enables them to build on their skills and improve their scores with each session."

SiegeVR is also featured in IGT's (International Game Technology) Virtual Zone at Boyd Gaming's The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  This deployment leverages HTC Vive's hardware and IGT's Virtual Zone Platform SDK, optimizing SiegeVR for tournament-ready use on casino floors.  Casino players can compete against each other for cash prizes in spirited VR tournaments and enjoy competitive VR games in a physial installation.

At GDC 2018, Sixense will be hosting four tournaments in which players compete to win a Vive.  Two tournaments will run on Wednesday, March 21 and two tournaments will run Thursday March 22 in the Sixense booth, #1201, in the South Hall of Moscone Center.  Attendees who wish to compete must register and play the game before 2:00 p.m. on either day.  Each day at 4:00 pm, the top ten players on the leaderboard will receive a free code to download SiegeVR on Steam. The top eight participants on the leaderboard will be invited back to the championship bracket, starting at 4:30 p.m each day.  The winner of the bracket will go home with a Vive.

"We are looking forward to allowing players to hone their skills within the comfort of their homes, then compete both online and in casinos for cash prizes," said Amir Rubin, Sixense co-founder and CEO.  "By partnering with HTC, we have a powerful platform to make SiegeVR widely available to the virtual reality community."

SiegeVR utilizes advanced avatar embodiment and satisfyingly realistic bow and arrow mechanics to make players feel that they are directly in the action.  Players can string their bow, take aim and let their arrows fly in the ultimate test of their VR archery skills. In addition to the contests at GDC, Sixense will award prizes to home competitors on Steam. On April 30, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. PST, the top 10 players on the SiegeVR Steam leaderboards will each receive a free game code to gift for a friend and the top player overall will receive a Vive Pro. HTC and Sixense will continue to award prizes for SiegeVR players; more details will follow in additional announcements.

SiegeVR will be available on Steam for $9.99 on March 21, 2018 and on Viveport at a later date.  The game will be available at a 15 percent discount for the first week of release, through March 28, 2018.
