EDC recognizes Canada's Cleantech Export Stars at Globe Forum


VANCOUVER, March 14, 2018 /CNW/ - During a gathering of the world's senior leaders in the clean economy, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade and Carl Burlock, Senior Vice President, Financing and International Growth Capital at Export Development Canada (EDC) presented Cleantech Export Stars to three Canadian companies named for their success in reaching the global cleantech market.

The ceremony took place at the Globe Forum, an international gathering of business, government and civil society representatives who are at the forefront of the clean economy. The event attracts nearly 10,000 delegates to Vancouver, B.C. from more than 50 countries.

"Events like this demonstrate how high the demand is for clean technology around the world. Canadian companies have the innovation, and those who think globally will find there is tremendous growth potential outside our borders," said Burlock. "EDC is the largest provider of financial solutions for cleantech companies looking to export and we're fueling the international growth of this sector."

Global cleantech market

Estimates place the value of the global cleantech market at more than US$1 trillion. In low-carbon, energy-efficient technologies alone, trade is expected to almost triple to over US$2.5 trillion by 2020.

Since 2012, EDC has facilitated close to $5 billion worth of cleantech export business and helped over 180 companies export to 114 countries. Supporting the global growth potential of Canadian cleantech companies is one of EDC's priorities. EDC has a dedicated team to focus on understanding the industry's needs and delivering the rigt solutions to help Canadian cleantech companies start up and grow their business internationally.



EDC is expected to provide more than $7 billion in financial solutions for Canadian companies through 2020.

Hydrogenics

Hydrogenics is helping to accelerate a global "power shift" for a cleaner energy future. A worldwide leader in designing, manufacturing, building, and installing industrial and commercial hydrogen generation the company is one of the world's leading suppliers of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers, which are increasingly finding their way into our public transportation system, delivery vehicle fleets, fuelling and other applications. Recently, the company secured high-profile wins, including a major contract to supply hydrogen fuel cell engines for 1,000 Chinese buses, the world's first zero-emission commuter train in Germany, and a pilot partnership with UPS to power its Sacramento (CA) delivery fleet using fuel cells. With 15 commercial installations worldwide, this truly Canadian technology is helping communities keep their water clean and create a byproduct they can sell.

Xebec Adsorption Inc. 
City: Blainville, QC 
CEO: Kurt Sorschak 
Xebec is a prime example of a great Canadian company with a global footprint providing carbon-reducing technologies to customers around the world. The company is a global provider of gas generation, purification, and filtration solutions. Among other things, the company has developed a state-of-the-art low-cost solution that captures 99% of digester and landfill gas to produce Renewable Natural Gas which can be used as a carbon neutral, cellulosic bio-fuel.
