2018 Cyberthreat Defense Report Identifies Distributed Deception Amongst Top Security Technologies as High Priority Purchase

NEW YORK and TEL AVIV, Israel, March 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Illusive Networks, the leader in deception-based cybersecurity and Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) solutions, today announces key findings from the fifth annual Cyberthreat Defense Report conducted by CyberEdge Group, revealing a high demand for new methods of threat detection to combat increasingly sophisticated attacks.

The independent report sponsored by leading high technology companies including Illusive Networks, gathers perceptions and buying practices of Information Security decision makers and practitioners across the globe. A complimentary copy of the report is available here.

The study found that companies are seeking a new cyber defense arsenal. Although data indicates that the percentage of organizations experiencing cyberattacks appears to be levelling off, the percentage of respondents expressing "optimism for dodging a successful cyberattack in the coming year" has declined from 62% in 2014 to 38% in 2017. Over 35% of survey respondents indicate they plan to acquire deception or honeypot solutions for network security in 2018, and nearly one-third for endpoint security technology.

"Reduced confidence in the ability to prevent a successful attack reflects the need for new approaches to stopping advanced attackers," said Ofer Israeli, CEO and founder of Illusive Networks. "By deploying deceptions across all the endpoints in the network, the endpoints form a web that enables early detection and obstruction of attackers before they can reach critical data and servers."

Other key findings include:

  • Only one tird (32%) of participants are confident about the adequacy of their cyberthreat hunting investments and nearly half believe there is room for improvement.
  • The rising shortage of IT security personnel is the greatest inhibitor for IT security professionals, having risen from fifth to first place over the last five years.

"With such shortage of cyber talent, threat hunting may not scale adequately for most organizations," said Israeli. "Agentless solutions that automate the process of maintaining tailored deceptions require minimal manpower and have become the preferred choice for large organizations to enhance their security posture against APTs."

The report also cites that 83.4% of organizations are experiencing patching challenges, with over one third indicating that they have "infrequent windows to take production systems offline." Israeli adds that when correcting vulnerabilities is not possible, deception allows for targeted protection of highly sensitive systems without having to install anything directly on them.
