DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital Trauma Center Receives Re-Verification as Level 1 Trauma Center from the Verification Review Committee (An Ad Hoc Committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons)

The trauma center at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital has been re-verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS (News - Alert)). This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

Verified Trauma Centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.

"Achieving re-verification as a Level 1 Trauma Center is a result of the many people who come to work at the DMC everyday and their commitment to provide patients with the highest level of trauma care at a moment's notice," said Anna Ledgerwood, Medical Director of the Trauma Program at Detroit Receiving Hospital and Professor of Surgery at WSU School of Medicine.

The ACS Committee on Trauma's verification program rovides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated it's commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients. As a Level 1 Trauma Center (there are five categories of verification), the program is considered a comprehensive regional resource that is a tertiary care facility central to the trauma system. A Level I Trauma Center is capable of providing total care for every aspect of injury - from prevention through rehabilitation. This is the highest level of verification.

"This re-verification is a true testament of the tireless work that is performed daily at Detroit Receiving to take care of trauma patients in our community and beyond," said Scott Steiner, CEO of DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and Harper-Hutzel Hospital. "It is a representation of the tremendous effort by our care team and dedicated physicians to achieve this national accreditation."
