BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced the agenda for SANS Security West 2018 taking place May 11 - 18 in San Diego, CA. The keynote address, An Interactive Look at Cyber Crime & Today's Threat Landscape, will be delivered by SANS course author and Faculty Fellow, Stephen Sims and the Global Head of Security Research at Sophos, James Lyne.

According to Stephen Sims (@Steph3nSims), "Cyber criminals closely monitor their target landscape for changes. Their ability to actively respond to these changes enables them to remain one step ahead of our efforts to maintain an acceptable level of security. Also contributing to the success of cyber criminals are basic mistakes made by users. Join me in San Diego where my colleague James Lyne and I will provide an interactive look at cyber crime and today's threat landscape as well as perform several demonstrations of exploiting both publicly disclosed and privately disclosed vulnerabilities."

In addition to the keynote address, Sims will also teach his course, SEC501: Advanced Security Essentials - Enterprise Defender. This coursebuilds on a solid foundation of core policies and practices to enable security teams to defend their enterprise. Lyne will teach the SEC660: Advanced Penetration Testing, Exploit Writing, and Ethical Hacking course. This course provides in-depth knowledge of the most prominent and powerful attack vectors and furnishes an environment to perform these attacks in numerous hands-on scenarios.

SANS Security West 2018 will feature three types of NetWars challenges - Core, Cyber Defense and Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR). Bonus evening discussions led by some of today's biggest names in cyber security will round out the agenda.
